SG Forest School is a partnership which runs Forest School for schools, pastoral support, home education groups, community children’s groups and parties. We also provide a range of outdoor learning opportunities, including: The Stone Age Experience, Woodland Wonder Experience and Outdoor Team Building Days. In addition, we are able to provide Inset days and staff training to enthuse your staff in the area of Outdoor Education. Our Escape to the Wild Inset Day has proved very popular with primary schools. We are based between Bristol and Bath and work widely across the South West.
SG Forest school is run by Tim Simpkins and Jane Gillis. Tim and Jane are both trained teachers, level 3 Forest School leaders and have up to date DBS/CRB enhanced certificates.
Tim has a degree in Geography and Primary Education. He has taught in primary schools for over 20 years, with 10 years experience as a Deputy Headteacher, with the relevant responsibilities of overseeing Outdoor Education and working as an Education Visits Coordinator . He has always had a great love of the outdoors, with interests including mountaineering, cycling, canoeing, and wild camping. Tim trained as a Forest School leader in 2012. Since then he has had experience of leading Forest School session for children of nursery, through to 18 years of age. He has had the opportunity to work with groups of children with behavioural and emotional needs, provide outdoor education training for teaching staff in a number of settings and facilitated a wide variety of extra-curricular outdoor opportunities for children.
Jane Gillis has a Geography degree and a PGCE in Secondary Education. Jane taught for 5 years as a Geography teacher. From 2006-2014, Jane worked as a children’s minister at Christ Church Clifton in Bristol, and then as their school community worker. She has had experience of working with all ages of children and young people. She runs various outdoor activity camps across the country. Jane loves being in the outdoors, with interests including mountaineering, cycling, wild camping, canoeing, and fishing. Jane trained as a Forest School leader in 2012 and since then has provided outdoor learning opportunities in a wide variety of settings. Jane has had experience of using Forest School/ Outdoor Learning to support vulnerable children, has been instrumental in leading our curriculum ventures, which include the Stone Age Experience and forging links with schools in the Bristol area, joining with them to develop innovative ideas for outdoor learning.
